R-Towing and Kvarken Ports Vaasa embark on a Partnership for Icebreaking and Assistance Services

The Port of Vaasa has a new provider of icebreaking and assistance services, as Oulu-based R-Towing Oy was selected through a tendering process. With this new partnership, the port gains a service provider that meets its growing needs and whose development goals align with those of the port itself.

“R-Towing demonstrated strong professionalism and flexibility already during the tendering process. The choice was also supported by positive feedback from other operators about their high level of performance, as well as R-Towing’s clear ambition for continuous development of operations and equipment. We are very pleased with the overall package and with the situation where both parties support each other’s growth and development,” says Janne Pylkkönen, CEO of the Port of Vaasa.

“Vaasa Port is an excellent addition to our port network, especially considering its strategic location and attractive growth prospects. I believe that the port will have in us an excellent, long-term partner for icebreaking and assistance services, and that together we have an exceptionally good win-win situation,” adds Lassi Rantapelkonen, CEO of R-Towing.

The agreement between the Kvarken Ports Vaasa and R-Towing entered into force on 1 September and covers the next three years. In addition, the contract includes an option for a further two years.

At the same time as we move into a new era of icebreaking and assistance services, the entire staff of the Kvarken Ports Vaasa would also like to thank our long-standing partner Vaasan Hinaus Oy for their valuable work over the years in the Port of Vaasa.
